When I say 'I'm cold' it's not a bad thing ...Brrrrr - winter is here - and I really love it.
Keeping the Studio warm and toasty for live modelling is a bit of a challenge and actually, I don't know what it is, but drawing, warm room, hot drinks and scones etc makes me kind of feel like I am in my own little world. The difference between winter and summer here in Perth is so marked you feel as if you have landed on another planet. My plants LOVE the cooler weather and in fact, most do much of their growing now, rather than spring - it's like they can't quite believe it either.... I was off in Guildford Town the other week and saw some really amazing leaves about. Maples, Oaks, Chinese Elms. Watercolour would be the trick, I thought. While the eldest waited near the car his mad mother scrabbled around gathering up gorgeous specimens with gasps of "oh! hang on - LOOK AT THIS ONE!" and, "I'll just grab a few of these - sorry love" "oh - wait - just a sec..." I suppose the least I could have done was unlock the car for him first...anyway - this is where watercolour really comes into it's own -that blending and movement of colour with water can be amazing!
