I've decided to post my latest large commission, as the delightful owner just had it framed.
Isn't it amazing what a perfectly matched frame can do for a picture? Now I could not imagine it without it's frame. To be honest, I feel that it is now completely finished. Thanks friend Curtis for taking the picture. What a wonderful surprise it was to see it up and framed!

I've just started working on a shibori dyeing technique using solar energy. I hope to use this work in an upcoming exhibition I am part of in early January, which will be looking at renewables and fossil fuels.
There is extreme satisfaction in allowing nature to do her work. This way of creating has an unpredictability in contrast to painting a portrait, where you tend to be in some form of control all the way through the process. I shall be very excited when i come to unwrap these small items...the process will be posted up in due course. In my next post, I shall put up some images of my latest commissioned works. Til then, it's out with the dye jars! well. imagine my horror when I discovered a 'half-post'. I had thought my text had posted with my puss image...dearie me...any goo...lets continue as if that massive technological blunder did not occur...
Felix....And the Wonders of Perseverance with Small Things. This small feline has taught me some important lessons. To watch a cat stalk its prey is a fascinating thing. In Felix's case, it is the common housefly. Imagine my shock to find a gnawed hole in my fly screen window, apparently growing in size, thereby letting in The Great Australian Fly....a summer wonder, in and of themselves... We have witnessed firsthand, Felix stalking them - complete with bum wiggling, pouncing, catching between paws and finally, crunching on his prey with great relish. This had me thinking...could he have made this hole larger, knowing these creatures gained entry via this portal? I had thought he clawed and bit at it regularly to escape out into the Big World...perhaps instead he slowly but surely worked a large enough gap to corral the flies indoors, knowing if he waited long enough, these small moments of entertainment would come to him....if he was patient....if he waited.... I likened this to my developing practice. Maybe its a case of from little things big things grow, or at least the occasional small thing can be a wondrous bonus...a by product, if you like, of the sometimes fraught journey as creator. Everything has purpose. Even sitting, waiting .....patiently..... |
